What is “Enlightenment”?

“Strictly speaking there are no enlightened people,
there is only enlightened activity.”
~ Suzuki Roshi
“There is no such thing as
enlightenment,
the realization of that fact is
itself enlightenment.”
~ Nisargadatta Maharaj

Q: What is enlightenment?

A: “Enlightenment” is a word, – an idea with different meanings for different people;
it is a mental concept resulting from thought.
So, the meaning of “enlightenment” is in the mind of the thinker.

Here we call “enlightenment” an evolutionary process, not an ultimate destination.

In evolving toward an “enlightened” destination,
we approach an ever-distant horizon in the Sacred Heart of Humankind.

Q. What are some signs of progress in the enlightenment process?

A. Less and less ego, more and more humility and authenticity;
less and less thought, more and more mental stillness and peace.

Let’s Learn To Be – Memory Free – Now!

“Mind is memory, at whatever level, by whatever name you call it;
mind is the product of the past, it is founded on the past, which is memory, a conditioned state.”
“Truth is not a memory, because truth is ever new, constantly transforming itself. (M)emory is a hindrance to the understanding of what is. The timeless can be only when memory, which is the `me’ and the `mine’, ceases.”
~ J. Krishnamurti

The power of memory
is a great gift.

But the power authentically
to Be –
beyond memory –
is a greater gift.

For memory is then,
while life is
NOW.

So, let’s learn to BE
– Memory Free –

NOW!

Think Before You Speak

“All that we are is the result of what we have thought:
it is founded on our thoughts, it is made up of our thoughts.
If a man speaks or acts with an evil thought, pain follows him,
as the wheel follows the foot of the ox that draws the carriage.”
~ Buddha
“A man is but the product of his thoughts; what he thinks, he becomes.”
~ Gandhi
“Nothing’s either good or bad,
 but thinking makes it so.”
~ Shakespeare

This world is wrought
with naught but thought.
~ Ron Rattner, Sutra Sayings

Think Before You Speak:

The thought manifests as the word.
The word manifests as the deed.
The deed develops into the habit.
The habit hardens into the character.
The character gives birth to the destiny.

So, watch your thoughts with care
And let them spring from love
Born out of respect for all beings.

~ The Buddha, as paraphrased by Mahagosananda

Divine Time Release Capsules

“Our destiny is Divinity.”
~ Ron Rattner, Sutra Sayings

Our destiny is Divinity.

Our human body/minds are like

Divine time release capsules

Of ‘congealed’ consciousness
 encapsulated by karma –

Enveloped by eons of illusory thoughts, words, and deeds

of imagined separation from others, from Nature
and from our ever imminent inner Essence.

But our optical illusion of separation is being released in time,
As our imagined karmic coatings are inevitably dissolving into
The eternal inner Ocean of Universal Awareness.

So, with ever increasing awareness,
In time we are slowly melting
into the mystery of our inner Divinity,
and merging with our eternal Self.

Thus, beyond time –
Beyond ego’s optical illusion of separation –
Our common destiny is Divinity.

And so shall it Be!

How Can We Think More Objectively?

“We are formed and molded by our thoughts.
Those whose minds are shaped by selfless thoughts
give joy when they speak or act.
Joy follows them like a shadow that never leaves them.”
~ Buddha
“Those who know how to think need no teachers.”
~  Mahatma Gandhi

Q. How can we think more objectively?

A. We can’t.

Thinking objectively is an oxymoronic illusion.
Thought is subjective; so everyone thinks subjectively.

To transcend thinking in the ‘subject-object’ box,
we can intuit our wholeness – as both subject and object.

Thus realizing that the essence of one is the essence of all,
we can more and more think holistically, compassionately and authentically.

So, think less, and intuit more;

Think with your Heart, not your head.

Spiritual Psychology

“Be empty of worrying,
Think of Who Created Thought!
Why do you stay in prison
when the door is so wide open?”
~ Rumi
“Show me a sane man and I will cure him for you.”
~ Carl Jung
“Full of love for all things in the world;
practicing virtue in order to benefit others,
this man alone is happy.”
~
Buddha

The ego is a psychological prison
in which suffering is inevitable.

Secular psychology attempts to mitigate that suffering.

Spiritual psychology aims at ending our imprisonment.
