Dear Friends,

With a new winter solstice cycle of ever increasing sunlight, let us envision the dawning of a new age of peace, compassion, and joy everywhere on our precious planet.

May we thereby rededicate ourselves to the Eternal Light of LOVE within and beyond everyone and everything on Earth; to THAT universal spirit of light, love, harmony and happiness, which is the unseen Source of the world we see.  
 

And as we share season’s greetings and envision planetary peace and joy, may we be infused with illumination and inspiration for harmoniously healing our precious planet and all its life-forms by these perennial wisdom words about happiness:

Dear Friends,

Happy Thanksgiving day! 

I wish you utmost happiness on Thanksgiving, and every other day. May your every day become a Thanksgiving day.

Thanksgiving day became my favorite holiday long ago, when I realized that thankfulness is a universal blessing which uplifts everyone everywhere, regardless of their cultural, spiritual, secular or religious attitudes or beliefs.  

Especially since miraculously surviving a recent near death taxi rundown, I am unspeakably grateful for still being alive, aware, ambulatory and interdependently-independent.  So every day in this precious human lifetime has become a day of thanksgiving – a bonus, with every breath a blessing.  

Thus, I have realized that a state of thankfulness can become a state of Divine Grace – not just during thanksgiving holidays, but constantly.  

Hence to encourage our continuing attitude of gratitude, I have traditionally posted the foregoing  inspiring thanksgiving quotes, together with the above exceptionally beautiful six minute embedded video narrated by Brother David Steindl-Rast, which I gratefully encourage you to view. 

May we deeply reflect upon and become inspired by these treasures of perennial wisdom.  May they guide us to ever expanding fulfillment and happiness on Thanksgiving day and every day.

Always remembering that ‘we reap as we sow’,

Introduction.

Everyone wants lasting happiness; no-one wants to suffer.

For millennia great mystics have revealed that ever abiding Happiness is our true inner nature – our Self.

So how do we discover and experience such Happiness?

Should we seek lasting happiness –

By maintaining an attitude of gratitude for our blessings, while accepting life’s inevitable challenges? or
By seeking impermanent worldly pleasures? or
By looking within to discover the Source of lasting happiness, and impediments to our experience of such happiness?

Or, rather than pursuing Happiness, would it be best for us to let go, and “go with the flow”, consciously letting Life happen through us?

Ron’s Commentary on Silence:

Dear Friends,

Have you ever noticed how it feels to be “in the zone” with a stilled or focussed mind? Or noticed how star athletes perform at their highest levels while “in the zone”?

Being in the zone implies a state of consciousness in which increased focus and attention support highest levels of physical or mental performance.

The secret of our success while “in the zone” is a thoughtless or focussed mind. And a thoughtless or focussed mind is often considered crucial to progress on the spiritual path.

That’s why spiritual teachers invariably endorse meditation and other mind-stilling techniques.

According to Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras – a sacred Hindu treatise – “yoga” is much more than postures and exercises to keep the physical body strong and flexible:

“Yoga is the cessation of mind.”


By following my Guruji’s key advice to “meditate regularly” I have learned the importance of a stilled mind, and have written extensively on that subject.

Here are some of my “sutra sayings” about a silent mind:

“Bliss abides when thought subsides.”

“When all thoughts cease, we are at peace.”

“Spirit speaks when mind is mute.”

“Mute your mind to hear your heart.”

“The power to think is a great gift;

but, the power to not think is a greater gift.”

Choosing Happiness

Life is perpetual,
but happiness is optional.

It’s choice – not chance,
free will – not destiny,
that determines our happiness.

Happiness is a state of mind or no mind – an attitude –
which thoughtlessly observes and accepts “what Is”,

So, to choose happiness,
Say “yes” to Life.

Mindfully end unhappy thoughts,
and gratefully accept “what Is”.
